Thoughts Lately {and Giving Yourself Grace}

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! This was our first weekend back where we’re healthy. Blake and I have both been hit with some nasty sinus infections this summer. We spent the weekend doing lots of house stuff like cleaning and selling furniture. Since being married we’ve had hand-me-down furniture, and we’re ready to buy some pieces that fit with our style and space. I’m on the lookout for the best, affordable grey couch (preferably mid-century) – where are good places to buy couches?

I’ve had lots of little thoughts/loves on my mind that I wanted to share with you all, so here’s another round of “thoughts lately.” Hopefully it gives you some inspiration!

1. Grace Yesterday at church, our pastor was talking about grace and shared a definition that struck me. I use the word grace often when talking about body image, intuitive eating, and perfectionism, but what does it really mean? Grace is unmerited favor. That means, giving ourselves love when we feel undeserving, and appreciating our body when we feel like it doesn’t meet our desires or expectations.

This is a great reminder for me, as I have high expectations for myself and am my worst critique. Just as we care for others, we need to care for ourselves, especially when we don’t meet expectations. When you don’t get as much done in a day as you wanted, give yourself grace by appreciating what you did. When you’re struggling to appreciate your body, give it grace by taking care of it and noticing what you are thankful for. How can you give yourself grace?

2. Summer Smoothies

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve heard of my smoothie debacle. I love them, but they never seem to fill me up for breakfast like oatmeal or toast does. Despite that, I’ve been on a smoothie kick this summer, because cool and creamy sound so good with the heat. My solution is to just have a morning snack when I get hungry, which lately has been veggies and/or crackers and hummus. The winning smoothie combination is 1/2 frozen banana, organic frozen mixed berries, organic frozen spinach, organic milk, peanut butter, 1 date, 1tsp maca powder, 2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen. What’s your favorite smoothie combination?

3. Guest Blog Post Ashton Smith, Founder of The Authentic Woman asked me to write a post for her blog. I’ve been following Ashton and The Authentic Woman for a while, and this was such an honor. Her publication and blog completely align with my passion to empower women to love who they are, pursue their dreams, and change the world around them. 4. Tidying Up As I mentioned, Blake and I are working on organizing and updating our apartment. Living in a small space, more stuff equals more clutter. I, like many others, struggle with clutter and a lot of stuff. I prefer simplicity and quality in everything, especially my living space because it calms my mind. I need to read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

We have very little space for clothes, and I realized I have so many clothes I haven’t worn for a year or clothes that kind of fit, but are a little small. So step one in tidying up was going through my clothes and getting rid of anything that doesn’t make me feel good, I never wear, and that I don’t really need. Now I have 3 bags of clothes to either donate, sell, or throw away. My ultimate goal is to do a capsule wardrobe of some sort, but that intimidates me. This is a start!
