this time it’s personal

On Friday, I met a new friend (love meeting Instagram friends!) for coffee. She too is an business owner and passionate about her work. Over cups of coffee we shared our stories, especially how we got to where we were in our work, and I learned I wasn’t alone in my winding journey to find my passion and pursue my dreams.

Lately, I’ve been wrestling with how my passion to empower women fits into my work with Beautycounter. Being an educator with Beautycounter has opened the door for me to dream and pursue a non-traditional career. It has freed me to invest in women and share my story. But how do I fit into the mission of Beautycounter? It’s not just another skin care company. Truly at the heart of Beautycounter is mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone through education, advocacy, and providing a safer solutions.

With Beautycounter’s 5 year anniversary on March 4th, and advocacy efforts in full swing, I’ve reflected on what the mission of safer beauty means to me. Working with Beautycounter isn’t just a means to make money for me. I’m passionate about the mission because it’s personal to me.

I’m on a mission for safer beauty because as a women, I don’t want to compromise my hormonal health. Because some day I hope to be able to carry a child and protect it even when it is in the womb. I want my children to have long, healthy lives. Because I don’t want my children to grow up and have to read the labels to make sure there isn’t any harmful ingredients in their products. Because there are toxins everywhere in our environment and I can’t control everything, but I can control what I put on and in my body. Because I was miserable in my 9-5 jobs, and couldn’t imagine that I could pursue my dreams. I want to help others find freedom. Because I am passionate about women and see many struggling to realize passions, carry children, find financial freedom, and love who they are. My passion is to empower women to take care of their bodies and pursue their dreams, whatever they may be. And because, as a Christian, I believe that I am to be a steward of my body, and do what I can to keep it healthy and away from harm. Because everyone deserves better.

I never imagined that I could make a difference in the world on such a scale, but the truth is that all of use can make a difference! The more voices the better!
