This week has been a long one. Full disclosure, I’m juggling a lot of plates and am working through a lot internally, which has left me feeling exhausted. I will share more details soon.
After two 10-hour nanny days Monday and Tuesday, I was ready for a day to work at home on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day, and I was able to spend a good part of the morning outside which was so energizing! My appetite was a little off, but I’m pretty sure it’s because it’s close to that time of the month for me. Do you notice appetite changes for you close to your period?

I was slightly hungry when I woke up, so I snacked on a couple grapes since I wouldn’t have breakfast for a while. My morning proceeded with my usual tall glass of water and apple cider vinegar, followed by reading (Bible and personal development), journaling, breathing, and physical therapy. Blake and I had plans for a coffee date that morning, so before going I made him a smoothie and myself toast. I love Whole Foods whole-grain, multi-grain bread and had 2 slices toasted with sunflower seed butter, banana, and hemp seed, plus some whole milk plain yogurt with black currant honey we brought back from Russia.
I forgot my phone at home when we went to coffee, which actually turned out to be a good thing. I should do that more often. We went to our favorite, Function Coffee Labs, and I got my usual black coffee. After Blake left for work, I stayed and worked on my newsletter and email.
Later that morning, I came home and worked in the back patio while it was still cool. Around 10:30, I started getting hungry. I knew I needed something to eat so I could focus on work, so I had some crackers and cheese. Some days I need a morning snack and other days I’m fine without it. I try not to judge the hunger, but instead give my body what it needs so I have energy to work and live life.
By 12:00 I was ready for lunch. I roasted sweet potatoes over the weekend and have been throwing them in salads or with some protein for lunch. Today, I made two fried eggs and served them with avocado, sweet potato, and frozen broccoli. This meal left me satisfied and full for a couple hours.
I wanted to get out of the house and needed a couple ingredients for dinner, so I walked to Whole Foods after lunch. I stocked up on milk, bananas, veggies, fruit, and millet (for dinner).
Once home, I settled in for some more work. This is when the exhaustion hit. I was watching some trainings and contemplating a nap. Around 3:00, I took a break and made an iced americano (thanks to my sister’s Nespresso maker). I wasn’t hungry, but I needed some caffeine.
When I closed down my computer at 4, I was ready for a small snack. I chopped up an apple and it hit the spot. I haven’t had apples in forever because I’ve been buying seasonal fruit, but the cold, crisp apple was refreshing.
I am trying to incorporate more vegetarian proteins into our meals, especially beans, because they’re cheaper. Higher-quality meats is expensive and with our budget, we can’t eat them all the time. To be honest, I am not a huge bean fan, but I’m going to try.
Wednesday night, I experimented with lentils. I used this recipe from Oh She Glows for Green Powerhouse Pesto Plates. It turned out great – Blake love the meal! The only downside was that it used a lot of dishes. In the future, I might add some other vegetables like bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms.
Wednesday nights we have small group from our church, so we headed over there after dinner. There are always sweet and savory snacks at small group, but my tummy wasn’t feeling great so I passed. When we got home, I had a couple pieces of Swiss chocolate my sister brought back for us, because I love having something sweet at the end of the day. Then we went to bed.
