Daily Eats {weekend edition}

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I’m starting a new series on the blog of daily eats. I’ve loved sharing these on Instagram, but there’s not much room to share my thoughts behind my eats on the app. This week, I’m sharing daily eats from Saturday! Weekend eats usually look different than during the week, so this will be an interesting example.

Before I dive in, I want to say that these posts are not for comparison. Rather they are here to provide inspiration for your eats and give you freedom to listen to your body and enjoy good food, as I am learning to do.

Since moving to Philadelphia, Blake and I started the tradition of going to a bakery/coffee shop on Saturday morning. Our favorite spot is Essen Bakery for babka and cinnamon buns (babka for Blake, cinnamon bun for me). It’s only a 10 minute walk from our apartment, and is the cutest little bakery ever.

We slept in this Saturday (8:30 for me!) and while Blake was getting ready I snacked on a banana and wrote some thank you cards to clients. We didn’t end up heading out until 9:30. In the past, this would have made me so anxious because we’d be eating breakfast so late, and I wouldn’t know how to eat the rest of the day. It’s not my ideal to eat meals later than normal, but it’s not the end of the world.

Per usual, Blake got babka and I got the cinnamon bun. I’ve tried the babka and it’s really good, but I prefer the cinnamon bun. I was tempted to not eat the whole thing and to feel guilty when I did, because the old ED voice said it was “too big” and “too rich,” yet I slowly enjoyed it and checked in with myself along the way and wanted to eat it all, so I did! It is the perfect amount of sweet and spice and the roll is rich and doughy. A couple cups of coffee also went alongside this.

After breakfast we ran some errands and then came home to get some work done – blogging and Beautycounter work for me! Around 1:30 I started getting hungry so I quickly threw together some food we had in the fridge. Scrambled eggs, steamed broccoli, and short grain brown rice topped with nutritional yeast and TJ’s Everything Bagel Seasoning. It was my first time trying nutritional yeast and it was good! What’s your favorite way to eat it?

I spent some time meal planning for the week and then we headed to the store. Stores are always busy in Philly (something I miss about St. Paul), but thankfully it wasn’t too bad! I’m trying to do grocery shopping and food prep on Saturdays instead of Sundays, and it makes such a difference in my Sundays.

For some reason, lunch left me feeling really full and while I normally have an afternoon snack I just wasn’t hungry. I struggle feeling full, but know that every day is different and some days I will feel more hungry than others. I kept working until 5:00 and then decided to move my body. I did a quick pilates workout and it felt good to move and sweat. Dinner wasn’t going to be until 8:00, and I was feeling something small and sweet – a dried fig did the trick!

While Blake was picking up dinner, I mixed up some sourdough bread dough so to raise overnight. I shared about my favorite sourdough tools on my Instagram stories if you were able to catch it!

Dinner was Whole Foods pizza. I had a slice with onions and mushrooms (my favorite toppings) and one with onions, mushrooms, and bacon, plus salad with greens, apple, dried figs, pistachios, and a homemade vinaigrette. GT’s Guava kombucha on the side. All eaten while watching Victoria – anyone else watching this?? We’re in the first season and loving it so far!

I usually have something sweet and tea to end the day. This night it was Talenti’s Sea Salt Caramel gelato and peppermint tea. Yum!

It was a full and good day, just how I like my Saturdays.
